Thanksgiving in Ohio

I am spending my first holiday with my Dad's side of the family this Thanksgiving. Since I grew up in California and they have always been in Ohio, we didn't travel during the holidays to see them. My grandparents, uncle, aunt and cousins live there. Matt and I will be driving (about 9 hrs) tomorrow and staying through Saturday. I'm looking forward to spending time with my grandparents and getting to see the Netro traditions. Since I can't be home for Thanksgiving this is the perfect place to be.

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and be thankful for all you have. I know I'm so thankful for my family, their support, my friends and of course, Matt.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

A "Unique" Job Opportunity

So I was looking online last night on Craig's List for a job, as I do everyday. I came across this posting under the Admin/Office section...

IF YOU ARE A GORGEOUS, SEXY, EXOTIC, AND CLASSY WOMAN, THIS IS THE RARE AND UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO EARN A GUARANTEED GENEROUS PAYCHECK MONTHLY.

RESPOND VIA E-MAIL WITH YOUR UNIQUE CREDENTIALS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY.

Yuck!!! How creepy... but I'm sure they got some responses... I joked with Matt that I could get a "guaranteed" paycheck!! I wonder what someone's "unique credentials" would be to get the job...

Thanksgiving Blow Ups

Sorry I haven't posted in a bit... not much going on here. Still no job on the horizon for me (permanent or temporary), so I'm just hanging out, trying not to spend money. One benefit is that I'm actually hitting the gym most everyday... no excuse not to!! And this week the weather made a turn for the much colder.... highs in the upper 30s in the day and lows in the mid 20s at night!!! So I'm mostly just hanging out inside the apartment keeping warm with Nate!

But our next door neighbors (the ones with all the Halloween blow ups in their yard) have not let us down for Thanksgiving! Thankfully there aren't nearly as many (although they'll make up for that at Christmas time!), but here is a pic of what they have in front of their house this year for turkey day...

Where do you even find Thanksgiving blow ups??? Wait 'til you see all the ones they have at Christmas!!!

6 Months

Six months ago today was my first full day living in Connecticut. We arrived late on the night of May 9th and the following rainy day was spent at Ikea buying a dresser, nightstand and coffee table (Matt didn't have one before and it drove me nuts!) I can't believe it's been 6 months already... in some ways it doesn't feel that long, and in others (like only seeing my family a few times in the last 6 months), it seems like a long time! And even though I'm still having trouble finding a permanent job, I've loved the experience of living on the East Coast and getting to spend so much time with Matt. Living with a boy hasn't been as difficult a transition as I thought it might be... maybe because I lived with a male roommate for so many years, but Matt and I both are laid back, kinda homebodies and just enjoy being with each other, so it's been relatively easy!

There are many things I love about living here: the town of Guilford (if you come visit and see it, you'll understand!), being able to take a 1 1/2 hr drive and be in NYC, or a 2 hr drive and be in Boston, the changing of the leaves in the Fall, being a drive away from so many states, exploring CT along the 2 lane highways, and of course, getting to see Matt everyday... I do miss CA very much, especially my family and friends, but I'm going to continue to savor this experience and enjoy it until we return next summer.

I Was Right... Matt Was WRONG!

So Matt was convinced that I have allergies. He felt that I was too "sniffily" and so he was sure that I had some sort of allergy. We keep going back and forth on this every time I sniff or blow my nose, but I tried to tell him that "our family doesn't do allergies". So finally the other night, I told him to give me the scratch skin test to settle this once and for all!
This is what the skin test looks like

Yesterday, I drove over to Yale Hospital and met Matt for me test. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous about it. I was expecting a much worse test than it turned out to be. Basically he just takes these VERY little pin pricks of 30 different allergens and puts them on my skin. It only goes through a few layers of skin and the majority of the time I didn't even feel anything. It was a much easier test than I expected, which I was glad about! Then we wait for 20 minutes to see if my skin reacts to anything. The last allergen put on my skin is a histamine that basically is a test for your skin... you should react to it and it should become itchy to show that your skin is reacting correctly. So my skin did react correctly to the histamine, but for the other 29 allergens, I had NO REACTION!!! Matt even asked at one point if I felt any sort of itching because I had no visible skin reaction at all... I made him say it... "I was wrong, you were right!" He was glad to see I don't have allergies, but now wants to figure out why I sniff... Anyway, I don't see any of this as an issue, but am just glad to know I was right!

Don't Forget to Vote...

I'm so thrilled that today is finally election day!!! Because Matt is so into politics, I've had to watch more Fox News on this election that I'd care to in a lifetime!! But, surprisingly, it's been more interesting at times than I thought it would. And I definately feel more educated on the candidates than I ever have in the past. So whomever you are voting for, just don't forget to vote!!!
